Just because they post stock photos of smiling people still doesn't prove that the stories are BS or at the very least embellished.
Just ask this scientician....
i find it interesting that so often they refrain from using real names, using some ficticious name as though using the real name would be "wrong" in this mag in the article "the bible changes lives" not only do they use the actual names but they even publish pictures of the individuals.
i know this isn't a new phenomina but it seems kind of silly..

jesus lived in heaven as a spirit person before he came to earth.
god used him as his chief spokesman.
that is why jesus is called "the word.".
'And it came to pass that Saint Victor was taken from this place to another place. Where he was lain upon pillows os silk and made to rest himself amongst sheets of muslin and velvet. And there stroked was he by maidens of the Orient. For sixteen days and nights stroked they him, yea verily and caressed him. His hair, ruffled they. And their fingers rubbethed they in oil of olives, and ranneth them across all parts of his body for as much as to soothe him. And the soles of his feet licked they. And the upper parts of his thigh did they anoint with the balm of forbidden trees. And with the teeth of their mouths, nibbleth they the pointed bits at the top of his ears. Yea verily, and did their tongues thereof make themselves acquainted with his most secret places. For fifteen days and nights did Victor withstand these maidens. But on the 16th day he cried out, saying: 'This is fantastic! Oh, this is terrific!!' And the Lord did hear the cry of Victor. And verily came He down and slew the maidens. And caused their cottonwool bugs to blow away, and their Kleenex to be laid waste utterly. And Victor, in his anguish, cried out that the Lord was a rotten bastard. And the Lord sent an angel to comfort Victor for the weekend. And entered they together the jaccuzzi.'
sure the world hasnt ended yet.
that doesnt mean that it isnt going to happen.. sure, the brothers got a little excited about 1975. they made a mistake.
its still the truth.
"i lament this hog-like visage..... .
when i gaze into the looking glass, i am confronted with deep remorse and crushed dreams that chase off the happy remembrances of yester-year.
here grows the unsatiable nothingness which i embrace, as one clasps tight to the edge of a precipice.

Here grows the unsatiable nothingness which I embrace, as one clasps tight to the edge of a precipice. Fatness sticks not but to the flesh but to one's own soul. When will this thick hide cease to blanket the trim man who dwells beneath? Oh, deliver me from these tasty confections! Alas!"

ballistic - I hope they leave that billboard up forever.
i've lurked on this forum since about the end of '10.
my first "apostate experience" began @ age 14. first a little backround.. i was baptised at 10, and did so mostly out of:.
) pressure from my mom to get baptised so that i would be safe from armaggedon(she was probably pressured from elders),.
welcome. Many of us here had/have the same exact feelings. So there's comfort for your mind that you're not alone.
one of the many questions that i am asked is what are the current gb members like, who are the hardliners and who are more moderate.. because of my previous job, at a european bethel, i had dealings with most of them with the exception of sam herd.. these are my observations of my conversations with them and how others who had dealings with them.. other ex bethelites may have contrary views to mine, but i would be surprised.. i had spent a lot of time with splane, lett and morris.
hardliners.
david splane, without doubt the one who commands the most respect and attention.
So, should we take it that in your opinion these guys are mainly administrators? That is, there is no modern Freddy or Ray Franz who are actually thinking the deep theological thoughts anymore?
It sure seems that way. It has struck me that nowadays there is very little actually discussed about actual JW doctrine. You have the occasional talk about prophecy or article about generational nonsense, but it seems like 98% of all meeting and assembly programs are Sales Pitching 101 and "Beware of Facebook" talks.
my wife and i drove from danville, illinois to shreveport, la in a 1947 chrysler club coupe.
we stayed in a private home (catholic lady), for $3/person/night that local jws had procurred ($30 for 5 nights), we ate most of our meals at the assembly, too.
gasoline was about 32 cents a gallon (pre-1973/4 oil embargo) and a mcdonalds hamburger/fries/coke was around 60 cents.
moshe, the WTBS always takes flak from local vendors and merchants when they try to rent a convention hall or stadium. The vendors want to sell to the JWs but obviously, this will not do. So, do you think that if vendors didn't make such a stink and never gave the WTBS any heat, could you see the Society returning to the pay for food arrangements from the past?

More evidence that they are just a glorified elder body. And we all know how well those run at a local level.....

Larsinger58 - So if I'm understanding you correctly, you believe that the JW doctrine of literal Jews no longer being a chosen people, but that the "chosen tribes" are completely symbolic and include all people, is false, right? That is very thought-provoking. It would make sense when one considers the promises that God gave to patriarchs like Abraham and Isaac concerning their seed. He promised them inheritances for their lines, so one could take this in a literal sense. God said nothing about cutting off the seed of Abraham. True the ancient Jews had a rocky relationship at times with God, but there was no black-and-white voiding of His original promise to Abraham, yes?
